Artesian and the Pacemakers Complete Three Peaks Adventure for Mind, the Mental Health Charity

Artesian and the Pacemakers Complete Three Peaks Adventure for Mind UK.

On May 10th, a team of 8 from Artesian, affectionately known as the ‘Pacemakers’, took on the infamous three peaks challenge, scaling the highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon).

Our aim was to complete the challenge within 24 hours, a goal we sadly just missed out on thanks to the challenging weather conditions and heavy traffic, but still managed to cover the walking distance of 23 miles, a 462 mile drive and a huge 3064 metres of ascent in a mere 27 hours.

Our team comprised of Louise Porter, Carina Price, William Fields, Robert Taylor, Stuart Newton, Richard Clark, Michael Larter and Luke Duckworth; a team of mixed age and ability which certainly put the strong Artesian team work ethic to the test to complete the challenge.

4 Seasons in one day

Kicking off with a 6am start, kit bags packed, little did we know just what a tough challenge lay in wait. Experiencing all four seasons over the course of the next day, we were cold, wet and exhausted, but the summit of each peak did not defeat us, even the notoriously steep Scafell Pike.

After each ascent and descent, we arrived back at the bus knowing we only had a few hours to warm up, eat and rest, and store valuable energy for the next peak.

At times it was hard to focus on anything other than putting one foot in front of the other, but the constant motivation from each other kept us going.

Whilst not all members of the team quite made it to the finish, everyone pushed themselves to the limit against the elements and the steep inclines.

The whole trip was an amazing experience and raised money for a fantastic cause. With donations still coming, we have so far raised just over £3,000.

After successfully completing the challenge, Louise added “We successfully battled snow, hailstones and strong winds and have smashed our fundraising target by 200%. Importantly, we were all still smiling at the end, talking about next year’s challenge, but we couldn’t have done it without the Deep Heat, Jelly Babies and a strong team spirit.”

Mind, The Mental Health Charity

The Artesian team undertook this challenge to raise money for Mind, The Mental Health Charity – a cause very close to our hearts.

Mind work to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding of this growing issue.

Mind take 100,000 calls a year, and in the last 12 months alone have supported 450,000 people, something they couldn’t do without vital fundraising.

There is still an opportunity to contribute to the cause. Each and every contribution can make a difference.
